Following the completion of the 2010 Pepsi Junior Golf Tour season "KYJuniorGolf" has had the opportunity to work several other golf tournaments throughout The Commonwealth of Kentucky; including The Kentucky Open Championship at Lexington Country Club and the U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead.

"KYJuniorGolf" will be in attendance at The 92nd PGA Championship, contested this weekend at Whistling Straits (Straits Course) in Haven, Wisconsin to watch Kenny Perry, J.B. Holmes and Keith Ohr PGA Head Golf Professional at Wildwood Country Club in Louisville battle it out for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy.

2010 Kentucky Junior Amateur Championship

The 2010 Kentucky Junior Amateur Championship was concluded today with second and final round play at three seperate sites. Bardstown Country Club @ Maywood, My Old Kentucky Home Golf Course and Lindsey Golf Course at Fort Knox played host to Kentucky's premiere Junior Golf event. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course, Franklin, Kentucky... Photos!
Some exceptional golf was played today on stop two of week five on the 2010 Pepsi Junior Golf Tour. Two juniors recorded their first career hole-in-one during the event. Timothy "Zach" Patterson (Boys 13-14 Age Division) aced the par 3 14th hole after his well struck 7 iron from 157 yards found the cup. Only an hour later, Kellen Russell's (Girls 13-15 Age Division) pitching wedge from 93 yards out on the 16th disappeared into the hole and came to rest against the flagstick.

The course's namesake, PGA Tour Player Kenny Perry was on hand for a majority of the day to watch golf, sign autographs, take pictures, hit golf balls and even have a putting contest or two with a few of the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour members.

Thank you to Kenny, his father, his sister Lydia and all of the staff at Country Creek for hosting the Pepsi Tour and assisting in making the event a success.

Pepsi Junior Golf Tour @ Cherry Blossom Golf & C C

The 2010 Pepsi Junior Golf Tour and the KGA-PGA, Inc. staff and crew of interns swung through Georgetown, Kentucky today to kick off the tour's second week of action following three events last week (The Polo Fields Golf & CC, The Bull Golf Club, Kearney Hill Golf Links: Results from these events can be found under the "Events" link on the top of our junior golf website). Temperatures in the mid to upper 70's, mostly sunny skies and a light breeze greeted competitors upon there arrival to Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club. The pleasant day which was accompained by ideal scoring conditions produced some low numbers on the scorecards.

Cherry Blossom hosted the Hooter's Tour ADI Classic May 17-23, as a result all players were treated to a well conditioned golf course. The 2010 ADI Classic was won by Matt Blackfield at 23 under par.

Mt. Dew / Aquafina Junior Series @ Lafayette Golf Club

This past Saturday, three weeks after the event was originally scheduled to be contested, the Mountain Dew/Aquafina Junior Series event at Lafayette Golf Club in Falls of Rough, Kentucky was staged and is finally in the books. Postponed due to rain on April 24th, the event was rescheduled for May 15th at 9 AM (central time) with hopes that ideal golf weather would coincide with the day’s festivities.

However, it appeared Mother Nature would not fully cooperate, the weather forecast was threatening once again with precipitation predicted to be in the area throughout the day. Fortunately for staff, competitors, parents and spectators alike the rain decided to hold off just long enough for all 38 players to complete their respective rounds. Falls of Rough, Kentucky was then flanked by thunderstorms for the rest of the afternoon into the evening.

For the first time this golf season a Mountain Dew/Aquafina Junior Series event was accompanied by above average temperatures. The absence of wet weather and presence of warm humid temperatures produced some excellent scores. Lafayette Golf Club is located on the property of the Green Farm Resort which includes lodging possibilities at the Green Mansion Bed and Breakfast. Designed by Jody Kinney of Dublin, Ohio, Lafayette covers 250 acres, and takes advantage of the varied terrain and the many lakes and rivers on the historic Green Farm property. Opened in May of 1997, the course offers superior golf for all levels of play. Five tees on each hole vary the course from 4200 yards to 6900 yards with the layout design incorporating both links and wooded styles.

Mountain Dew Junior Series @ Weissinger Hills Golf Course

On a windy Saturday with temperatures hovering in the upper 50s, 51 junior golfers across five age/gender divisions set out to tackle Weissinger Hills Golf Course in Shelbyville, Kentucky. The course, which measures 6215, 5865, and 5119 yards from the blue, white, and red tees, respectively, was set for low scores from our competitors. However, with gusting winds creating added difficulty, few players in the field were able to go low. The finest round for the Boys came in the form a 74 fired by Drake Duncan (15-16 division) while Michaela Manley of the 16-18 division shot the Girls’ low round of 82.

As a whole, the competitors struggled mightily with the difficult par-4 2nd hole. The 2nd plays 439, 418, and 334 yards from the blue, white, and red tees, respectively. With its uphill play, water hazards guarding the length of the left side, and out of bounds guarding the right side, the hole ranks as the hardest hole for men and the fifth hardest for women on the course. Adding the strong winds of the day to the natural difficulty of the hole, the players were left flustered which resulted in 34 scores of double bogey or worse, 13 bogeys, and only 4 pars!

What the competitors lost on the 2nd hole, however, they regained on the par-5 18th. The 18th plays 447, 425, and 353 yards from the blue, white, and red tees, respectively. While the hole is ranked as the fourth hardest for men and the tenth hardest for women, the players in the field certainly did not play as such. Attacking the short par-5, the field managed to accumulate 2 eagles, 11 birdies, 21 pars, and just 14 scores of bogey or worse.

Overall, the golfers handled the course and the conditions well and made it a successful tournament for all. We would like to thank all of the golfers for participating and congratulate the following winners:

Mountain Dew Junior Series @ Cherry Blossom G & CC

The Mountain Dew Junior Series swung through Georgetown, Kentucky for the tour's second stop this spring. A calm, still day with temperatures in the upper 70's welcomed competitors upon their arrival to Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club. The near perfect scoring conditions produced some excellent scores from the field of 48 players within 4 age divisions.

Aquafina Junior Series @ Avon Golf Course

The third installment of the Aquafina Junior Series took place today at Avon Golf Course in Lexington, KY. The facility is located on the old Avon Army Depot property (now called Bluegrass Station) in the northern part of Fayette County.

It was a beautiful day in the Lexington area with near perfect weather consisting of sunny skies and 70 degree temperatures producing ideal scoring conditions for competitors. Twenty-five junior golfers within 3 age divisions teed it up to compete over Avon Golf Courses' challenging 9 hole layout. The competition produced some excellent scores resulting in scorecard playoffs for awards in 2 of the 3 age divisions.

Aquafina Junior Series @ Mahan Manor Golf & Hunt Club

Wow! What a facility Mahan Manor Golf & Hunt Club is - from the 200 year old cabin, to the "in-the-middle-of-nowhere" feel, to the design and layout of the golf course - what a fabulous experience. The course itself was opened in September of 2009 when it hosted a match between J.B. Holmes and John Daly.

In addition to the great facility - we had great weather! The temperature was in the low 60's and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The winds were whipping, which affected the players' shots, but there were still some very good scores for the course/conditions.

Mt. Dew / Aquafina Junior Series @ Harmony Landing Country Club

The KGA-PGA, Inc. junior golf season got off to a chilly start on Sunday, March 14th at Harmony Landing Country Club in Goshen, Kentucky. 34 Aquafina participants and 26 Mt. Dew participants began play at 2:00 with a 44 degree temperature on the thermometer and an icy drizzle that would come and go throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.

All 60 players who started their round, persevered through the weather and posted a score. A complete listing of players and their scores are available on the "Events" section of our junior golf website.

USGA/PGA Rules of Golf Workshop

The USGA/PGA Rules of Golf Workshop in Lexington, Kentucky begins Sunday, February 21st at 8:00 a.m. Men and women from Kentucky and the region will be in attendance seeking to enhance their rules knowledge for the next 4 days. Many will also be striving for for a 92% to become eligible to work USGA Championships held throughout the country.

Day 1 - Sunday

8:05 - great showing, many of our rules officials from Kentucky. Many folks from across the country as well! The instructors are David Staebler of the USGA and Bryan Jones of the PGA.

10:25 - first break, went through three fourths of the definitions, which most people involved in the rules will tell you are the most important aspect of the rules.

11:50 - break number two, covered Rules 1, 2, and 3. One of the most important rules to learn as a player is rule 3-3. This rule, "Doubt as to Procedure", allows you to finish a hole using two balls, if a player is doubtful of his rights or the correct procedure during the play of a hole.

12:30 - lunch break, jumped to rule 9. Time to catch some hoops action.

3:55 - after lunch we dove into rules 34, 4, 5, and 6. After eight rules we haven't even talked about the ball being in play yet. If you want to focus on one rule, read and understand rule six, especially 6-6!

5:00 - day 1 in the books. Ended the day with rules 33, 7, 8 - hopefully we'll finally get to talk about some rules involving the ball in play!

Day 2 - Tuesday

7:50 - Looks like almost everyone is back, I'm sure we lost a few to the first day though. According to the screen, looks like we're not messing around as rule 20 is next. This rule outlines when, where, and who can lift, drop, place, and replace the ball. Oh, and it also has playing from a wrong place! This rule is nothing short of confusing...

9:25 - break one, only an hour after we started rule 20, we finished rule 20. Any golfer can learn quite a bit by merely reading one section of this rule.

10:50 - second break of the day, flew through rules 10, 11, and 12. Covered the teeing ground and searching for and identifying ball (something I seem to do quite often!).

12:00 - lunch break, covered rule 13 for an hour. Another key rule in the book, this rule tells us the the ball is to be played as it lies, and tells us what actions we can and cannot take.

2:00 - break, covered rules 14 and 15 which tell us how to strike the ball and how and when we can substitute a ball.

2:55 - last break of the day, just went over rules 16 and 17. Those rules talk about the putting green and the flagstick. The flagstick rule is much more friendly than it used to be by allowing fellow competitors to move the flagstick if it is lying on the green. Up next, an interactive review of what we've done so far.

5:00 - the review was great, very interactive with charts and videos that got to the point of many rules and decisions. The workshop has been postponed due to brain overload until 8:00 tomorrow morning.

Day 3 - Tuesday

8:00 - full crowd, going over speaker evaluations and exam rules. Looks like we're gonna start with rules 18 and 19 this morning.

9:05 - first break, check out rules 18 and 19 if you ball has been moved other by a stroke. These rules are very helpful in telling us what we are to do in order to play the ball correctly after it has moved.

10:40 - covered rules 21, 22, and 23 last session. A few interesting facts in those rules, but the good rules are quickly approaching.

12:00 - lunch break, rules 24 and 25 are complete. Very important rules dealing with abnormal ground conditions and obstructions.

2:30 - break, rule 26, 27, and 28 were covered after lunch. All playeres should be fully aware of these three rules! Water Hazards, Ball Lost or Out of Bounds; Provisional Ball, and Ball Unplayable are essentials in playing a round of golf.

5:00 - finished with all 33 rules and all the definitions...time to study!

Day 4 - Wednesday

7:45 - nervous crowd, 100 question test awaits.

11:50 - test complete, if my calculations are correct I scored an 80...same as I got last year. Andy scored in the mid 50's on his first attempt - congrats! Better than my first score of 46 six years ago...
